KTM presented its brand new KTM 690 LC4 Supermoto, the 690 SMC. The model is planned to arrive in the US at the end of March or beginning of April this year, but it already determined many Supermoto riders to go ahead and make a deposit for one even though they have never got a feel of it. Of more interest to more people is the fact that it’s bloody good fun and way faster than you’d think for a 115bhp V-twin.

It’s smooth, hoikes easy wheelies and will rattle on to a top speed on the indecent side of 130mph. There’s stomp aplenty, making pulverising corners and overtakes like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Updated to 990cc in 2007.

Out back, you’ll find a pivot-arm articulated WP pressurised-gas monoshock which offers 250 mm of wheel travel. If you want to bring the bike to halt, you can rely with confidence on a set of capable Brembo brakes.
