The earlier Husaberg engines (1989–1996) were known to have premature engine failures due to the fact that they do not have an oil pump and rely on oil delivery from the timing chain. The reliability and quality of the engines have improved over the years and, from 1997 on, have been comparable to that of more established brands.

In 2014 Husaberg will be celebrating not only its 25th anniversary but it will be the last year of the brand. In January 2013 Stefan Pierer, The current CEO of KTM-Sportmotorcycle AG who is also 51% shareholder of KTM AG, purchased 100% stake in Husqvarna AG from BMW through his company Pierer Industrie AG and renamed it to Husqvarna Sportmotorcycle GmbH.
